Is a tolerant future still possible when it feels like we’ve moved in the opposite direction?
In this episode of Birth of Reason, Judi Weisbart introduces her sculpture “Hate Crimes,” created at the turn of the millennium under the belief that humanity was ready to evolve.
Judi reflects on growing up believing in unity, taught that hatred is learned, not innate. She contrasts that hope with the resurgence of open hostility, racial violence, and religious intolerance in the last two decades. She argues that hate crimes are not abstract offenses but acts of targeted violence intended to erase entire groups, and that silence makes us complicit.
Growth requires difficult conversations, open minds, and shared responsibility. Together, this episode serves as commentary and a call to civil and humanitarian duty: hatred cannot be normalized, but instead confronted.
